Teej

Teej festival is the biggest hindu festival of Nepalese woman, celebrated all over Nepal. The festival generally falls in August or early in September. Mainly, the festival is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, who was wife of shiva. During this teej festival in Nepal, women take fast for the long and healthy life of their husband as well as pray for prosperity. On the same occasion, unmarried girls take fast to get good husband in future.

Both Married  and unmarried celebrate teej with love and dedication. During this festival, women are dressed with red sarees with gold ornaments from head to toe.On this special occasion, people invite their married daughter to their home to celebrate the festival together.   It is also an opportunity for women to visit their parents. Teej is mainly celebrated for three days, which are feast day, fasting day and rishi panchami. Women also wear mehendi and colourful bangles.

The recent years have witnessed alteration in the rituals, especially concerning the severity ,but its essence remains. No matter how agnoizing the fast may be Nepalese women have and will always continue to have faith in the austerities of teej.
